ZIMMERMANN 'The Esplanade' FW15

Friday, April 17, 2015

In 2015, a more-is-more attitude can certainly be worth it and emerging Austrailian brand Zimmermann proved it once again, representing their mother-land on the international runway scene for the forth time at NYFW. The Zimmermann presentation was one of my most anticipated shows this NYFW season, as it was my first time attending the brand's collection preview, and I must say, even though I didn't expect two of my favourite designers to disappoint, they've actually raised the bar so high for every other Fashion houses that wish to pay tribute to the 70s era, sooner or later.

And yes, 70's is a never-ending topic but what was truly genius about Zimmermann was that the brand found its inspiration from a palette influenced by interior designs of the 60's (merlot, sea foam, tangerine, dove gray, rust…the list goes on!) and incorporated 70's shapes. We're arleady so far from the flares & fringes clichés that the Zimmermann sisters didn't even have to worry about falling into commonness ! I think the the Fall/Winter 2015 womenswear collection feels effortlessly cool and surely is a great line for the California minded girl who loves a little free-spirit in her sophistication, although most of the looks aren't necessarily daywear material. Night owls will come away happiest here ;)

The brand's signature diaphanous gowns were out in full bloom with long, lean, feminine and pretty proportions. Many of the dresses also bore lace and generous peek-a-boo cutouts which added tons of sexiness to the whole collection ! In between this wave of maximalist maxidresses, we could spy some puff-sleeve blouses, high-waist stretch crepe flare's, shantung trousers and a couple of standout coats in jewel tones for the most alluring references to the past era. And judging from the age of the designers, it makes sense to think it reminded the Zimmermann sisters about their parents boho-days and most of their teenagehood.
