STYLE FILE: Alexander Wang SS15

Sunday, November 2, 2014

My second show on NYFW day 2 happened to be one of the most coveted and high-profile event of the entire Fashion Week in the Big Apple, Alexander Wang. The young prodigy who dropped out of Parsons (The Parsons School of Design) around the age of 22 to successfully launch is first ever women's collection didn't fail to impress us once again and yet, for the third time this year. 2014 was a great year for Wang as he not only designed, showed and launched two seasonal collections (FW14, SS15) but also collaborated with H&M in their latest designer capsule collection to be launched on November 4th, here in Montreal, and released in store as of November 6th. As a matter of fact, I am super excited to let you guys know that I will be your very own eyes next Tuesday night from 7:00 to 9:00 PM (GMT-5), at the official Montreal launch of the infamous collection. Make sure to follow along, using the hashtag #PBalexanderwangxHM, to find out all about the new IT-collection of the hour ;)

Now back to our SS15 runway report.

As we all figured, sneakers have had a good year so far - thanks to the creative minds behind Dior and Chanel - but remaining true to himself, Alexander Wang kept on innovating, taking the trend another step forward by creating a sort of trainers-inspired stiletto sandals with high rims framing the soles and incredibly lightweight and breathable toeboxes made of an outer mesh layer which feels rough to the touch, while inside there is a soft, stretchy inner layer which feels like it’s constructed of a material akin to lycra. How smart of Wang to turn on its head the current high-end designer fascination with sports footwear !

Another thing that caught my attention during the show was how the label embodied a casually cool sporty style, obviously drawing inspiration from the nineties, while always finishing off with an effortless slouchy edge. These were sexy pieces of clothing that women will definitely want to wear, especially in contrast with his FW14 runway show, where he surely made a point of getting the models to look as unsexy as possible ! But of course, a good, proper Wang collection wouldn't be complete without his usual French-chic sporty touch. As if the sneakers-insipred footwear wasn't enough, Wang made good use of the sporty shoes as the main inspiration for clothing. For instance, his nice line of bright coloured body-con dresses were very reminiscent of Nike's famous Flyknits trainers and the signature white and green Adidas Stan Smiths kicks we reimagined as what happened to be my favourite part of the show; nothihg else but a 'Tennis anyone ?' outfit fivesome of pure taste and quite very Summer-in-the-Hamptons-like.

Let's make some predictions over here: these amazingly gorgeous slim-fitted trousers are probably (most definitely!) going to be a big trend next Spring. Thoughts ?
